The Daily Show had a story tonight about a smarmy 22 year old econ major who “pays” homeless people for holding advertisements.
He reminds me of the many arrogant pricks I went to high school with – who have subsequently become MBAs, the color guard for the grand march of exploitive capitalism.
I have no problem with capitalism, mind – when it operates as intended, it works beautifully, and I truly believe it’s the best economic system we’ve yet discovered.
If you read this article about Bumvertising (which the Daily Show called “the best economic opportunity for the homeless since Bumfights”), you learn quite a bit about this go-getter darling of conservative talk radio.
Fun fact: he made money in high school as a ticket scalper and price gouger!
Ain’t it Cool says that the villain for the second Nolan Batman movie will be played by one of two brits: Paul Bettany and Lachy Hulme.
Previous geekdom speculation had Sean Penn rumored to be reading for the role, and I admit that it would have been a compelling choice.
The author of the linked article says Crispin Glover should play the character, and that seems, to me, the perfect choice.
i had something to say about this, but I’ve forgotten what it was. Something about Americans in the cast, and the ability for most of the actors in the first film being able to speak with American accents, and how we really should have all known how good Batman Begins was going to be with a cast that included Bale, Oldman, Freeman and Hauer, but that a good cast doesn’t make a necessarily good movie and maybe we should have been as skeptical as we were and maybe these two guys they’re choosing will be good for the role, and how I liked Paul Bettany in Master and Commander and how they’ll probably never make a sequel to that movie, and how Russel Crowe is kind of a dick, and that I’m one of the few people I know who didn’t like Gladiator at all.
Well, something along those lines, anyway.
