Something More Than Night

Rating: ★★★✩✩ (3 stars out of 5)

I admire the author for his ambition: he ably combines a couple few genres and then ties them together with quantum physics. It’s an interesting premise built on a shaky foundation of tired hardboiled detective tropes, but it’s not a bad book. It should either be shorter (with a lot of the Marlowe pastiche discarded) or longer (with more attention given to more cleanly gluing the angelic to the quantum, and with a lot of the Marlowe pastiche discarded).

boiled into an elevator pitch, I would say it’s Sergei Lukyanenko’s Watch series meets Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time.
