This is a book in the surprisingly fertile genre I would classify as “police procedural but spooky and magical” sort of like Broadchurch meets Harry Potter. This is probably the best of the genre. It’s certainly one of the more numerous, if that’s any measure. I also enjoy the personified rivers-as-sort-of-people thing, too.
